The Shopify extension lets you offer Omneo benefits as discounts at Shopify checkout. Benefit Definitions live in Omneo. Linking one in the Shopify app generates a matching Shopify automatic discount, which you then configure with the discount actions that should run when a Profile claims the benefit. The extension does not create Benefit Definitions. You can only link Definitions that already exist in Omneo.

How it works

A Benefit Definition in Omneo describes a claimable entitlement, such as “Birthday treat” or “VIP free shipping”. A Profile can hold one or more benefits linked to that Definition on their account. To make a Definition usable at Shopify checkout, you link it to the Shopify shop. Linking creates a Shopify automatic discount, powered by Omneo’s discount function, that fires only when a signed-in Profile claims a matching benefit during checkout. You then edit that discount to configure the benefit actions, the actual price changes applied when the benefit is used. At checkout, the Omneo Benefits block lists the Profile’s claimable benefits. The Profile picks one (or more, when stacking is enabled). The matching discount runs its configured actions in sequence against the cart.

Configure benefits

Create the Benefit Definition in Omneo

In the Omneo CX Manager, create the Benefit Definition you want to offer. Set the name, description, and any redemption rules. This step happens in Omneo, not the Shopify app.

Link the Benefit Definition in the Shopify app

In the Omneo Shopify app, go to Settings > Benefits. Find the Benefit Definition you want to offer and select Create Discount.Linking does two things:
  • Creates a Shopify automatic discount tied to the Omneo Benefits function.
  • Stamps the new Shopify discount ID onto the Omneo Benefit Definition so the two stay paired.
The discount starts with no actions configured. Until you add an action, claiming the benefit at checkout will not change the order total.

Configure the discount actions

From the Benefits settings page, select Edit next to the linked Benefit to open the discount editor.Add one or more benefit actions. Each action describes a price change that should happen when the benefit is claimed:You can also set cart rules:
  • Cart minimum and Cart maximum — restrict the discount to orders within a value range.
  • Full price items only — exclude already-discounted lines from the discount calculation.
Save the discount once configured.
The example most teams start with is a single Percentage Off action set to 15 — a flat 15% off the cart when the benefit is claimed.

Enable the benefits block in checkout

In the Shopify checkout editor, add the Omneo Benefits block to the checkout layout.Only linked Benefit Definitions appear in the block. If a Profile is signed in and holds a claimable benefit against a linked Definition, that benefit is shown and can be applied. Benefits the Profile does not hold are not shown.
You must enable the Omneo Benefits checkout block for benefits to apply at checkout. Without it, the discount exists but has no surface for the Profile to claim against.

How actions run at checkout

When a Profile applies a benefit at checkout, the linked discount runs through the cart and processes each action you configured, in order:
  1. The Benefits block tells Shopify which benefits the Profile has claimed and the actions on each one.
  2. For every claimed benefit, the discount processes its actions in sequence:
    • Percentage Off and Fixed Amount Off actions evaluate eligible cart lines (respecting full price items only and any minimum/maximum rules) and produce a line-level discount.
    • Free Item actions add the configured product variant to the cart at zero cost.
  3. If multiple benefits or actions would discount the same cart line, the highest-value discount wins for that line. Discounts are not stacked on top of each other on the same line, but different lines can receive different discounts.
  4. Shopify applies the resulting discounts to the order total, and the Profile completes checkout.
When the order is processed, the extension records the benefit redemption back in Omneo against the Profile’s benefit.

Editing and unlinking

From Settings > Benefits, each linked Definition has two actions:
  • Edit opens the Shopify discount so you can change actions, rules, or active dates without touching the link itself.
  • Unlink removes the Shopify automatic discount. The Benefit Definition stays in Omneo untouched and can be linked again later. Unlinking does not retroactively refund or reverse benefits already redeemed.

Limitations

  • You can only link existing Omneo Benefit Definitions. The Shopify app does not create Definitions.
  • A Definition that is not linked in the Shopify app will not appear in the checkout Benefits block, even if the Profile holds it.
  • The checkout Benefits block must be enabled for benefits to apply at checkout. Linking on its own is not enough.
  • If multiple discounts target the same cart line, only the highest-value one applies to that line.
