# Setting up the Currencies extension

> Which settings to configure in CX Manager and how each of the three Currencies jobs is switched on for your tenant.

Omneo installs the Currencies extension for your tenant. Your part is to choose your base currency, decide which of the three jobs you need, and agree with your Omneo contact how Transactions should wait for conversion.

## Before you start

Decide these first:

| Item | Why it matters |
| - | - |
| Your base currency | Every converted Transaction is converted into this currency. It is usually the currency your loyalty program is priced in. |
| The currencies you trade in | Transactions in any other currency are converted. Transactions already in the base currency are left as they are. |
| Whether loyalty should wait for conversion | If points or tier points depend on the converted amount, Transactions are held until the rate is recorded. See [Transaction conversion](/extensions/currencies/transaction-conversion#waiting-for-conversion-before-loyalty). |
| The currency pairs you hold | The daily market rate only updates pairs that already exist in your tenant. Create them first with the [Currency API](/api-reference/currency/add-currency). |
| Fixed or live rates for regions | Tier points and region switches use the live rate unless you configure fixed rates. See [Live rates](/extensions/currencies/live-rates). |

## Settings

Configure the extension in CX Manager under **Settings > Plugins > Omneo Currencies**:

| Setting | Description |
| - | - |
| `enabled` | Turns the extension on or off for your tenant. Transaction conversion and the daily market rate both stop while this is `false`. Defaults to `true`. |
| `base_currency` | ISO 4217 code that Transactions are converted into, for example `AUD`. Defaults to `AUD`. |
| `update_market_rate` | `true` records the daily market rate on your currency pairs. Defaults to `false`. See [Daily market rates](/extensions/currencies/market-rates). |
| `market_rate_currencies` | Optional list of the currencies to keep market rates for, for example `AUD,GBP`. Only pairs with both currencies in the list are updated. Leave it empty to update every pair you hold. |

  Settings changes are not picked up instantly. Tell your Omneo contact when you change a setting so they can apply it.

## Switching on each job

    Omneo installs the extension on your tenant, which creates the settings above. Live rates for Omneo Clienteling work from this point.

  <Step title="Transaction conversion: connect the webhook">
    Omneo registers a `transaction.received` webhook on your tenant that points at the extension. Transactions only fire `transaction.received` when they are created with `need_action` set to `true`, so your Transaction sources need to send that flag. Omneo then adds the Reaction that releases each Transaction once its rate is recorded.

  <Step title="Live rates: configure tier point Reactions">
    Use `tier-point.create.with.region` with `convert_currency` set to `true` in the Reactions that issue tier points. Leave out `exchange_rates` to use the live rate, or pass it to use fixed rates. See [Live rates](/extensions/currencies/live-rates).

  <Step title="Daily market rates: opt in">
    Set `market_rate_currencies` to the currencies you trade in, then set `update_market_rate` to `true`. Ask your Omneo contact to schedule the daily update for your tenant. Set `use_market_rate` on each currency pair that should convert at the market rate.
